If you learn to make the most of your morning and use it to kickstart the day, you increase your chances to reach your goals in life sooner. Here are the most essential morning habits remarkably successful people have chosen to build over time, which help them win the day and be super productive:
It can be as little as two minutes in the beginning. You may find it hard to focus your mind for longer as we’re used to paying attention to random thoughts all the time. But do it for a week every morning and you’ll find it easier to let go of distractions and be mindful instead.
Meditation is a powerful practice. It’s simple – you just sit down in a quiet and peaceful place and try to empty your mind.
The benefits, however, are tremendous. You reduce your level of stress and can concentrate more throughout the day, which helps you do productive work and get it done faster.
What’s more, you find peace and contentment in the present moment, which helps you be calmer for the rest of the day and deal with issues easier.
2. Drink a glass of water
That’s the best way to get your metabolism working and get hydrated after leaving your body without water for a long time. It will help you be fresh and wake up in the healthiest way possible.
In fact, you don’t even need to have breakfast if you don’t feel like it. At this point the body doesn’t make any difference between beverages and food, it just needs to get moving.
The simplest and healthiest solution is to start your day with a glass of water. Some people after some time decide to go even further and drink a liter first thing in the morning. The results of that are improved focused and productivity, a clearer mind and better health in general.
3. Plan out and organize your day
The morning is the perfect time to create your to-do list and prioritize.
Write down everything you have to do later and try to figure out what items are most important to prioritize. It may take as little as 5 minutes, but it will save you so much time later on.
Take things to the next level by deciding when to do each task, and defining the 3 most important ones. They will be the first thing you do once you get to work. These must be the things that when done, will get you closer to your goals and will help you feel accomplished and productive. Make sure you complete them before you move onto less important stuff.
That’s great for personal organization as it helps you keep track of everything you’ve finished and what’s left to be done. You also know where to start, and can thus organize the rest of your day.
4. Journal your thoughts
Give morning pages a try. That’s a daily habit of some of the most successful people and they always do it before breakfast.
It’s what helps them clear their mind, start generating ideas and get to know themselves better.
It can be used as a therapy. You can write down your deepest desires or fears and may find out some issues you didn’t know about.
Morning pages can also be used for some creative work. Just put pen to paper and share what’s on your mind. Get it out there in the form of fiction if you feel like it.
You may also review your life goals so far and set new ones. Writing these down may help you make them more specific, see what’s been working so far and include more of it in the next couple of weeks.
5. Get positive
Say some positive affirmations out loud. Or read a few pages of an inspirational book. Visualize how successful today will be and get a motivation boost to take action right away. Write down 5 things that will make today great.
Such simple tricks have a huge effect on your current mood and let you become more energetic, happier and confident in your abilities.
If you woke up in a bad mood though, don’t worry. Just fake it using body language. Smile, use the mirror technique (say the affirmations in the mirror to really believe them), or listen to some music and dance for a while to get pumped up.
6. A quick workout
Some people don’t really have the time to work out once the day has started. But if you want to get in shape, or just to be more active and improve your health, get up earlier to do that.
It may be going to the gym, out for a run, or even a quick workout at home. Anything will be better than just being lazy.
Start with stretching. And after your finish exercising, even if it’s for 10 minutes, take a shower (preferably a cold one).
That gets you mentally and physically prepared to jumpstart your day. You increase your energy and know you’ve worked on improving yourself before others have even woken up. That helps you have a higher opinion of yourself too.
These morning habits, when combined and done daily, can turn your whole life around. Develop one at a time and do it slowly. That will make the whole process manageable and even pleasant.
Don’t worry if you fail every now and then, or if one of these habits is just not for you. Focus on what works and stay consistent. Soon people will notice how fresh and motivated you are in the early hours of the day and will want to know your secret.
So how do you start your day? And what habit do you want to add to your morning routine first? What other morning habits can you share?
